The Newton Mearns club is the latest in a number of Scottish clubs to be forced to shut its doors due to dwindling membership, and effectively ran out of money to keep it in existence.

The Eastwood Golf Club website now carries a small message saying ‘Course Closed’ and says to contact MLM Solutions – a Glasgow-based financial recovery, restructuring and debt advisory firm – for all enquiries.

A trustee has now been appointed to take charge of the golf club’s estate, and will be responsible for managing the sale of its assets to generate funds for the creditors.

Previous efforts to save the club, which sits just off the M77, included an open day earlier this year to try to attract new members.

And it also recently introduced gender-neutral tees, which were aimed at allowing golfers to play from a set of tees most suited to their ability, not their gender.

Ultimately, however, these measures were not enough to save the club from closure.
