Robert Carlyle recently revealed his favourite tracks during BBC’s Tracks Of My Years with Vernon Kay
Robert Carlyle is one of Glasgow and Scotland’s most celebrated actors having portrayed many recognisable characters on the screen in film and television.
The actor famed for roles such as Gaz Schofield in The Full Monty and Begbie in Trainspotting has had an eventful career to date with him recently reprising the role of Gaz for the television series of The Full Monty.
He was born in Maryhill in 1961 and attended North Kelvinside Secondary School before working for his dad as a painter and decorator. Carlyle first became involved in drama at a later age through Glasgow Arts Centre - then going on to graduate from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

5. How Soon Is Now?, The Smiths
Speaking about this particular Smiths tune, Caryle said: “That Hatful of Hollow album in my opinion is one of the greatest albums of the eighties if not of all time. That Johnny Marr sound sounded so fresh.”
6. Waterfall, The Stone Roses
Speaking about this period of his life, Carlyle said: “I had left drama school and was working in the Scottish theatre.” He would go on to make his film debut the following year in 1990 in Silent Scream.
7. One, U2
Speaking about One, Carlyle explained: “I loved U2 for a start and that song particularly. I did a piece called Cracker and Anastasia my wife worked on that show doing Robbie Coltrane’s makeup. U2’s One were the songs that were a bit of a soundtrack to our times together.”
8. Linger, The Cranberries
“At that time I was up in a place called Plockton doing a show called Hamish Macbeth. My wife Anastasia was working at Granada TV and would drive up to see me and I would drive down and that song was the first thing on the playlist. There’s just something so beautiful about The Cranberries.”
