POLLOK were in full celebratory mode when they lifted the Euroscot Engineering Central League Cup on Monday.
The Newlandsfield side ended their season on a high, defeating rivals Ashfield 3-0 thanks to a brace from Carlo Monti and a goal from Willie Sawyers.
Captain Monti commented: “It was a great performance from the boys - everyone played there part. We proved many people wrong.”
Meanwhile, Giffnock North also had a fairytale end to their season, which came down to a tense final game against Dalziel who had to win to avoid relegation.
With the score tied at 1-1 on the 94th minute, a Dalziel defender handled the ball and the referee pointed to the spot, at which point Queen’s Park bound Nani made no mistake and found the back of the net to hand the southsiders the Caledonian league title.
President Barry Macdonald told ExtraSport: “The league and cup double is the greatest achievement for the club since the Scottish cup win in 1957.”
