Whitecraigs golfer Gordon Stevenson carded a pair of three-under-par 67s to win the 2012 North of Scotland open amateur stroke-play championship for the David Blair trophy at Tain golf club.

Gordon, a former Belmont House pupil, opened with a pair of 70s, at which point he trailed local rival Conor O’Neil of Pollok.

However, Gordon, who has previously turned out for Whitecraigs rugby club alongside his brother, stand-off Ally, kept his composure while his rival lost his and shot a 74 in the final round.

A series of bogeys by O’Neil were met by birdies by Stevenson, who overcame a five stroke deficit.
