Giffnock North are hosting two prestigious running events on Sunday in Rouken Glen Park.

First, the home countries cross country comprising four races with a total of 30 athletes from across the United Kingdom in each race.

East Renfrewshire’s Provost Alex Mackie will present the medals after each race.

Then, it’s the national junior road race championships U13-U17.

As well as national titles, selection for the London mini marathon will be based on the results of these six road races .

competition amongst Scotland’s finest young distance runners will be extra intense - including local athletes in Giffnock North’s own national U17 XC champion Neil Gourley and recent U17 national schools xc silver medallist Chloe Cowan.

In mens hockey, Clydesdale drew 3-3 with Western Wildcats while in the womens’ league, Giffnock defeated Edinburgh Uni 4-0 and Milne Craig Clydesdale Western were 2-1 winners against Grange.

Glasgow City got the new 2012 season off with a bang with a resounding 10-0 victory over Kilmarnock in Ayrshire in the first round of the Premier League Cup.
