GIFFNOCK Soccer Centre is to be given the option of leasing the grass playing football pitches at Woodfarm Playing Fields.
The proposal will see much greater use of the grass fields than at present.
The deal will also free East Renfrewshire council from the liability of managing and maintaining the site.
In return for the use of the site, the soccer centre will grant reasonable access by the council for such things as school sports days.
Welcoming the move, Conservative leader Gordon Wallace said: “Local people have had concerns over what was to become of this much-cherished open space that lies at the heart of the ward.
“Just five years ago we fought a hard — but ultimately successful — campaign to resist the then proposal to hand a significant part of the land over to developers.
“Now local people can rest easy as the council look to lease the land and who better for it to go to than GSC — a Scottish Football Association Quality Mark Club with Scottish charity status.”
