One of the southside’s favourite summer 10k road races is to be transformed, with a faster, flatter, more spectator-friendly route planned for this year’s Running Festival in Rouken Glen on Thursday June 13.
Race co-organiser Charlie McKie said: “In looking to constantly improve, the Giffnock North Running Festival never stands still. The challenging course we’ve used for twenty years has served us well, but we’ve taken on board participants’ feedback from right across the running spectrum and this year’s edition will be less demanding and even more spectator-friendly for supporters and families.”
Runners taking part this summer will face two loops of a 5k course mainly within Rouken Glen Park, which should appeal to athletes of all abilities.
As in previous years, the race will use timing chips, and dri-fit t-shirts will be issued to every finisher. The only thing the event lacks is a sponsor.
Charlie McKie added: “The enjoyable route in a scenic setting, and the established popularity of the whole event, with its junior 1k runs and family atmosphere, ensures that the Festival of Running 2013 is a natural opportunity for a sponsor. There’s great exposure and local goodwill to be gained through press articles, race fixture lists, web sites, t-shirts and running numbers.
“The 2013 event will proceed — it’s a highlight of the southside sporting summer — but the backing of a sponsor would be much appreciated as we try to plough resources back into grassroots sport.”
