Bellahouston Park race circuit welcomed the ‘Best of Scottish’ on Sunday as the cream of the nation’s cycling talent went head to head for glory at the 2015 ScottishPower National Youth Road Series, featuring riders between the ages of 8 to 16.

The Bellahouston Crit Round 4 was hosted by the Johnstone Jets who, along with Glasgow Riderz, train at Bellahouston Park.

Glasgow Riderz fell just short of the Jets medal tally, clocking up five podium performances including top honours for youngster Anna Shackley, while her Riderz team mate and Scottish Power Youth Series leader Georgia Ferry came in third to retain her jersey in the U14s.

Bob MacFarlane, of sponsor ScottishPower said: “There is a real buzz within Scottish Cycling at the moment following the growing level of talent amongst our youth athletes.

North Aberdeenshire-based rider, Eva Young showed impressive endurance in holding off Glasgow Riderz Imani Pereira-James and series leader Elena McGorum of Peebles club.

It was hometown glory for the U10 boys as Johnstone Jet’s duo of Oliver Kelly and Jamie Thomson book-ended the rostrum, taking first and third place over Riderz Patrick Barnes on podium two in the U10a.

In the youngest age category U8s, Riderz Fraser Anderson pulled up second.

Round 5 takes place on August 18 at Golspie, Highlands.
