Queen’s Park got their Betfred League Cup campaign back on track with a fine 2-0 Group E win at Stenhousemuir last night (Tuesday).

A 40th minute strike by Sean Burns and a second half goal by Conor McVey earned the Glasgow outfit a crucial victory in their battle to try and secure at least second place in the table to give themselves an opportunity to reach the last 16 knockout stages.

Queen’s Park had started their league cup campaign on Saturday with a 2-0 ‘home’ defeat by Championship outfit Queen of the South at Airdrie.

First half goals by Jake Pickard and Andy Dowie did the damage as League One new boys Queen’s Park got off to a losing start in the tournament.

Pickard’s easy six-yard finish from an Anderson cross put the away team ahead on 27 minutes, before this lead was doubled seven minutes later when the unmarked Dowie headed home Hamill’s corner.

Queen’s are third in the group behind Queen of the South and Partick Thistle.

Next Tuesday Queen’s Park they have a home league cup Group E game against Airdrie, kick-off 7.30pm.
