A TEAM GB Olympic athlete was on hand to pass on top tips to children at a packed summer sports camp last week.

London 2012 volleyball player Lynne Beattie called in to one of the sessions at the new Eastwood high school’s sports centre.

The former Mearns Castle pupil from Eaglesham was also promoting the council’s sport and dance showcase (August 24-25), a free event held to mark the one-year countdown to the Commonwealth Games.

There’s an action-packed programme of events over the two days aimed at children and young people.

For P4 to S2 pupils, there are sport and dance sessions which gives them the chance to take part in a range of different activities delivered by local club coaches.

Local athletes will be there to speak to children about their experiences in sport, inspiring the next generation.

There’s also a two-day dance programme, with something for everyone aged from three to S4.
