Bowlers from the Fordyce Court Sheltered Housing complex are delighted that their local club has donated an indoor bowling mat to them.

Mearns Bowling Club were updating some of their equipment and rather than throw away some of the kit, they decided to look around for a suitable recipient, which is where Fordyce Court came in.

Club President John McGaffney and Treasurer Jim Norton attended the opening session and threw the first bowls on the day.

George Faulds, one of the residents who now plays, commented: “We are delighted with this kind donation, it is a good way to keep fit and is fun – even the wardens have been joining in and are very competitive”.

John McGaffney added: “We are delighted to see the mat being used and it’s helping residents not only stay active but also introducing them to the sport of bowls. We are always on the look out for new members and hope to welcoming some residents from the complex who might want to join our club.”

George finished by saying: “A rivalry is already developing between Fordyce and Waterford Road who have some keen bowlers in their community, hopefully more complexes will join in, and who knows we may even be able to start up a local OAP bowling league!”
