A 15-YEAR-OLD Mearns Castle pupil added to his ever-growing medal count last weekend.
Swimmer Andrew Mullen took silver in the mens 50 metre MC backstroke and fifth place in the mens 50m MC butterfly at the para-olympic British Gas Olympic swimming trials in London.
In the butterfly events the Ren 96 athlete broke the British record twice in one day, first in the heats then also in the final.
With these performances, along with his recent medal winning performances at the IPC European disability swimming championships, Andrew has now established himself amongst the elite of disability swimming.
Unfortunately Andrew was an agonising 0.04 of a second outside of the qualification time for this year’s Olympics but the Mearns Castle pupil has another opportunity to qualify in four weeks time at the British disability swimming Championships in Sheffield.
Andrew’s coach at Ren 96 Swimming Club, Andy Jackson, is bursting with pride at Andrew’s outstanding achievements.
