A DAY of top-class cross country racing saw a number of southsiders scoop medals.

The Scottish national junior road race championships took place immediately after the Home Countries International at Rouken Glen.

Home side Giffnock North’s youngsters were to the fore, with three team prizes and three individual medals.

The southsiders’ under 17 men won the national crown with exceptional running over 5k.

Neil Gourley, third individual, led Andrew Clarke (7th) and Partick Lonergan (13th) to the national crown by a single point ahead of Victoria Park City of Glasgow.

U15 Chloe Cowan also put Giffnock top of the podium, winning what was arguably race of the day, in a neck and neck battle with Garscube’s Catriona Graves, the national cross country champion.

Giffnock’s Under 13 girls Holly Still (third overall), Erin Wallace and Sarah Eunson were edged out of gold by Kilbarchan Harriers by a solitary point.
