The great outdoors
WITH a return to the outdoor programme last weekend, there was some movement at the top of the women’s Subway national league.
Ambitious southsiders Giffnock leapfrogged neighbours Milne Craig Western into second spot after seeing off GHK 5-1 at the Hutchie Arena.
Giffnock were three up at the interval against the league’s bottom side.
The goals came from the reliable regulars of Cath Stirling at a penalty corner, Kareena Marshall and Rhona Simpson.
The East Renfrewshire side added two more in the second half through Alex Wilson and Simpson, and have overtaken Western by two points having now played one game more.
Western were otherwise engaged with a semi-final of the indoor league knockout cup — a dull affair with Dundee Wanderers, whose 2-1 win defied the run of play that went in the opposite direction.
