Sport roundup

JAMIE Longworth’s dramatic injury time winner secured a 2-1 away victory for Queen’s Park against East Stirlingshire, to kick off a great weekend for sport south of the river.

It was a clean sweep for the southside’s rugby teams this weekend.

In Premier three, Cartha came out on top in a tense 9-6 win against Dumfries while free-scoring GHA defeated Dalziel 29-12. In Premier C, Whitecraigs bounced back from last week’s disappointing loss to Biggar to defeat Falkirk 32-16.

It was a successful weekend in hockey as well, with Milne Craig Clydesdale Western defeating top of the table Grove Menzieshill 2-1, while Giffnock earned a convincing 5-1 win against Kelburn at the Hutchie arena.

In the men’s first division, Greaves Clydesdale moved into sixth place after an exciting 4-3 victory against Edinburgh Uni.

Clydesdale’s latest international cricketer was on fine form last week when Scotland defeated the United Arab emirates by seven wickets.

Titwood newcomer Sufyaan Sharif took 3-27 to send UAE all out for 100 in hs first innings.

Experienced offspinner Majid Haq was also in the line-up.

To round off the weekend of wins, Williamwood high school’s Douglas Macintosh, from Busby, won the Scottish 12 and under indoor tennis championships.

However, it wasn’t all good news as Scotland’s top ladies side Glasgow city lost out to English giants Arsenal in a six goal thriller.

City were 2-0 up thanks to goals from Jo Love and Jane Ross but Arsenal fought back after half time to score four and secure the win.
