Southsider becomes British champ

AN EASTWOOD high school pupil has confirmed her status as one of the country’s top karate hopes.

At the British Championships held at the Kelvin Hall last week, Megan Macnair won Kata gold in the under 14 category.

Megan who trains at Japan Karate Academy based at St Ninian’s High school, put in a tremendous performance beating England’s top hopeful on the way to the final.

Megan told ExtraSport: “With more than 800 competitors from all over Britain taking part, it was just a fantastic experience”.

The 13-year-old has been training at the club for eight years, achieving junior black belt only last year.

Her teacher, Terry Connell, said: “I always knew she had the talent, it was the mental preparation and attention to detail that made the difference.”
