GHA are hoping for home success on Saturday at their own sevens tournament.

The side, which will feature former Scotland international sevens player Hefin O’Hare, hope to claim victory when challengers from across Scotland visit Braidholm on Saturday.

Now in its third year, the Braidholm sevens rugby tournament has gone from strength to strength.

The Leicester Tigers, last years winners, won’t be returning to defend their crown, but a whole host of challengers comprising of both club and invitational sides are ready for action.

As well as GHA, other club sides such as Ardrossan Accies, Mackie Academy FP and Greenock Wanderers will be making an appearance.

While the Minerva Builders, an invitational side led by Hawks first XV backs Peter Jerecivich and Gavin Macdonald will be also be competing for glory.

Last year’s plate winners, the Bal Rams will also be returning to the competition, featuring a number of players from several club sides across Scotland, including mercurial Biggar full-back A-C Parker and powerful Bouroughmuir winger Jordan Webster.

A-C said: “We’ve got an even better team this year so will be looking to win the whole thing. We are all in the best physical conditions of our life so can’t wait to push to exceed our limits and earn silverware for the second year running”.

Tournament organiser Rangi Jericevich - a GHA star in his own right – told ExtraSport: “We are delighted to see how the tournament has grown over the past three years since it was launched and this year we have teams travelling from as far away as Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire to Melrose in the Scottish Borders.

“The mixture of club and invitational teams means that the games are always unpredictable and exciting to watch. “We also focus on the festival atmosphere with music, food, beer tent and bouncy castle throughout the day”.
