Queen's fInal test
THE Spiders must now rely on results elsewhere if they are to secure a play-off place after suffering a sickening 1-0 home defeat by Elgin City.
It was the worst-possible outcome for Queen's Park, who were dealt the double blow of hearing rivals Albion Rovers claim three points in their away success at Berwick Rangers.
Nerves were evident from the start at Hampden as the visitors started the brighter. Craig Frizzell was denied in the third minute by the heroics of Jamie Brough and keeper Mark McGeown.
Queen's then passed up two gilt-edged chances which would have settled their nerves.
Jack Henry volleyed his effort straight at John Gibson before, a minute later, Martin McBride's header rattled the post.
It was McBride again who passed up a glorious opportunity to give his side the lead when he headed Henry's cross goal bound only to see it come off the back of Paul Kaczan.
After the break, the home side dominated without finding that vital goal.
The longer the game went on, the more the crowd grew agitated and with it the dreaded feeling of a sucker punch.
After substitute Ian Watt missed a sitter in the 75th minute, the writing was on the wall for Queen's.
Craig Gunn's initial shot was brilliantly saved by McGeown, who could then only watch Shane Sutherland blast home the loose ball.
Spiders' faithful prays were answered when Livingston defeated play-off rivals Albion Rovers 2-0on Tuesday, but they still face a nerve-wracking last-day encounter this Saturday away to Forfar. The match kicks off at 3pm.
