Newton Mearns' Nani knocks Tinto for six.

A PHENOMENAL one-man-show by a Portuguese named 'Nani' handed Mearns Rovers a win on the road.

The Crookfur based side were being held 1-1 at half-time in Saturday's clash with Symington Tinto at Biggar, until the striker went on the run.

A heavy pitch did not lend itself to good football and two defensive mix-ups gifted a goal apiece to either side in the Trophy Centre first division match.

But after the break, Nani came into his own and produced an awe-inspiring performance.

The state of the pitch was far from meditterannean - but that didn't seem to bother him as he lollipoped, flicked and pirouetted his way to scoring five more goals, taking his tally for the game to six.

His team-mates kept it tight at the back, ensuring NM Rovers headed back to Crookfur with a 6-1 victory in the bag.

Elsewhere, in the Scottish Amateur Cup holders Queen's Park were knocked out 4-1 at home to St Patrick's.

Another two southside teams also fell from the competition in the tighest of circumstances.

Weirs Recreation lost out 5-4 on penalties to Drumchapel after the game finished 2-2 after extra-time.

Shawlands FP also fell at Nether Pollock to Lochgelly United, by the odd goal in seven.
