Karate kids grab a gong

SHANNON McNair, from Newton Mearns said a huge 'hi-ya' to the gold medal at the Scottish Karate Championships in Meadowbank recently.

The seven-year-old, and team-mate David Hatt (15) were the St Ninian's based Shitokai Karate Club's two gold medal winners in the Kumite (sparring)

Shannon also scooped a silver medal as did ten-year-old Megan MacNair, who also took a bronze.

Cara Galt (8) from Glasgow won a double bronze, the same as Heather MacIlraith from Beith and Stuart Chalk also scooped a third place finish.

The youngsters, compete in the club's squad and train between St Ninian's in Giffnock and Renfrew Leisure Centre.
