A new covered facility at Cowglen Golf Club means the centre can now attain the prestigious Scottish Golf Development Centre status.
The facility was unveiled on June 21 by the wife of late club president, Charlie Mackenzie, whose generosity helped fund the new building.
At the family’s request, junior Cowglen members hit the first shots.
Open to all club members, a bespoke short games area is further planned, fulfilling all the requirements of a Development Centre.
Only 50 golf clubs across the country are eligible for this ClubGolf-backed status, designed to give the next generation of golfers an opportunity to reach the top of their game.
Club professional Simon Payne said: “As a club we hope to attract new members — particularly juniors — with the addition of this fantastic facility. These facilities can help young golfers hone their skills in a fun and pressure-free environment.”
Development Centres provide the opportunity for players to learn valuable technical skills in the game. Further, they can gain a range of sports and fitness education. Members can learn about course management, planning, and fitness.
All categories of membership are now open at the club. A limited number of practice area memberships can be secured by calling the centre.
