Golf youth coaching squad announced

RENFREWSHIRE Golf Union's Junior Coaching Convenors have announced the coaching squad for the coming season.

Despite the weather, coaching sessions will commence in mid January at Mearns Castle Golf Academy and will run to the end of March so that the squad can be ready for the Scottish Boys Championship to be held at West Kilbride in April.

In the temporary absence of Adam Hunter, coaches Ian Kennedy and George Boswell will look after the training sessions.

Graham McGee and Gary Havlin, have named 48 boys - the largest squad RGU has had in recent years.

Following an assessment session in December, 25 new young golfers have been added to 23 boys who were in the squad last year still under 18.

The increased budget to cover the costs of the large squad has been possible thanks to new sponsorships and to funds raised at the annual dinner.
