Friday night lights
AFTER a week of weather related call-offs in the league, the southside rugby clubs are back in cup action this week.
On Saturday, Whitecraigs are set to travel to Greenocck while Cartha host West of Scotland. Both kick offs are 2pm.
However, first up are GHA, who travel to Ardrossan for a game underneath the lights on Friday night.
GHA, who currently lie second in their group, had a week off last week as their game against West of Scotland was called off.
Head Coach Gordon MacPherson said: “It shouldn’t affect them too much. In some respects it might help them because we have been playing virtually non-stop since the start of the season without a break.
“With our game being called off it gives some players who have a couple of niggling injuries time to recover.
“I think it might actually help us to have a week off”.
GHA have already faced Ardrossan twice this season, losing in the first meeting but winning 43-15 in the last fixture.
Macpherson believes the Ayrshire side will pose a significant threat to his team.
He said: “We will have to be on top of our game. They have the ability to pass us. We need to keep our recent form going which has been quite good.
“If we don’t show the level in the last three weeks they can punish us. So we will be prepared for whatever they throw at us”.
Ardrossan v GHA at Memorial Field is on Friday night at 7.30pm
Meanwhile, Cartha coach Gary Grant fears Saturday’s game against Glasgow rivals West of Scotland could fall victim to the weather. He said: “I am not expecting the game to be on, our pitches are completely solid. Our challenge at the moment is finding somewhere to train, but we need game time, we aren’t able to play and train regularly enough.
“We had good momentum before the weather started to turn, I don’t want that to shift. Every other club in Scotland is facing the same problem, we just have to fight to find a solution”.
Whitecraigs, who lost to Premier two side Glasgow Hawks in their last cup clash, will visit Greenock.
