Five star Pollok

POLLOK's pre-season campaign opened with a comfortable 5-0 victory over East premier league side Fauldhouse United at Newlandsfield.

Lok's starting 11 included new signings Steven Rennie, Roddy Hunter, Kevin Bradley and Ian Diack, plus goalkeeper Zander Cowie, now a permanent signing after a successful loan spell last season.

The visitors started brightly and were unlucky not to open the scoring after nine minutes when the Fauldhouse number ten's drive was tipped on to the bar by Cowie.

They were to rue this missed opportunity after 20 minutes when the home side took the lead.

Calum Hardie dispossessed the Fauldhouse fullback before picking out Hunter at the far post who controlled well on his chest before prodding the ball home.

The goalscorer turned provider 14 minutes later when he played in fellow new boy Diack, who, after some neat footwork, lifted the ball over the despairing dive of the keeper.

Pollok extended their lead 12 minutes after the interval when Diack finished from close range after a low corner into the box.

He then completed his hat trick on the hour by superbly beating the offside trap, and latched on to a Craig McEwan through pass.

Diack coolly nodded the ball past the onrushing keeper, before rolling it into the empty net.

A couple of minutes later Diack was once again involved in Pollok's fifth of the afternoon.

The Fauldhouse number five went into referee Alan Newland's book for a foul against the striker on the halfway line.

From the resultant free kick both players tangled again with the centrehalf bundling Diack over.

Ref Newlands had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Shaun Dillon confidently stroked home the penalty.

Kevin McGlinchey was brought on to make his first Pollok appearance, before another debutant, Craig Brown, replaced hat-trick hero Diack.

Pollok's next home fixture against Queen's Park under-19s on Saturday has a 2pm kick off.

Next Wednesday, Scottish junior cup holders Linlithgow Rose come to Newlandsfield for another friendly: kick off 7.30pm.
