Beep, beep for the Road Runners

More than 500 runners took part in the weekend's race.

More than 500 runners took part in the weekend's race.

BBC Radio Scotland DJ Bryan Burnett cheered on more than 500 runners at the weekend.

The runners formed the Jimmy Irvine Achilles Heel Bella 10k race in Bellahouston Park on Saturday.

The race was organised by local running club Bellahouston Road Runners and is now in its third year.

Road Runners founder Jimmy Irvine started the race and participants ran the 6.2 miles around the park.

Runners included members from running clubs from all over Scotland and those who participate in the weekly Pollok Park 5k.

Burnett blasted out music as the runners neared the end of their journey to spur them on.

Burnett, himself a keen runner and a member of the Bellahouston Road Runners, said: “It’s such a thrill to be involved in this race today and see how the event has grown over the years.

“I am enormously proud to be a member of this runner club which always welcomes all types of runners.

“It’s amazing to see the warmth and enthusiasm still shown at every event they organise.”

The race was won by Michael Deason of Shettleston Harriers who had led the race from the beginning and finished in 31 minutes and 52 seconds.
