Back to the league for GHA

SOUTHSIDE rugby fans had the game of the year snatched away from them when GHA cancelled Saturday’s clash against Whitecraigs.

In a hotly anticipated encounter, the two neighbouring sides were set to meet for the first time in six years.

However, an injury crisis at Braidholm meant the friendly encounter was not to be.

Whitecraigs secretary Graeme Scott was saddened by the news.

He said: “GHA called off owing to injuries and unavailability and the likelihood of the fixture taking place this season is remote.

“This is hugely disappointing as there has been a large amount of local interest and our players were looking forward to locking horns with our neighbours”.

GHA — who visit Howe of Fife on Saturday in a must win league clash — did receive good news on the injury front however as four of their stars returned to training.

Full-back Andrew Gillman, stand-off Craig Sorbie, back-row forward Euan Angus MacLeod and captain Niall Cassie are set to be back in contention for a starting place within the next few weeks.

After their bye week, Craigs will face Hillhead/Jordanhill at home with a 2pm kick off in Premier 2.

Meanwhile, Cartha’s first XV are hosting Ardrossan Accies at Dumbreck in Premier 3 after a hard fought 13-11 against Kircaldy on Saturday.
