GIFFNOCK North athlete Neil Amner completed the gruelling ironman tri challenge in Barcelona, in a time of 13 hours and four minutes.
During the race, the Giffnock man completed a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike race and a marathon, all without a break.
The Lawyer told The Extra: “With each stage, more competitors dropped out and the run became more and more a question of will power.
“The support from the crowds along the route had been great all day but no more so than on the run.
“The partisan support of family and friends of the handful of Scottish competitors was a particular help”.
Neil’s wife Laura also played her part by running the final 100 metres with him.
The endurance competitor has raised more than £3,000 for Action Duchenne, Macmillan Cancer Support, Erskine and British Red Cross.
He added: “I have to thank my family, friends, colleagues and clients for not only their support but their forebearance with my training schedule and mildly obsessive behaviour during the last year”.
