IT WAS a week of brave showings for Whitecraigs under 18s in both cup and league action.

The youngsters managed to secured second place in the league on Wednesday with a 43-0 win against Glasgow rivals Allan Glens.

Then, on Saturday, the West Lodge boys held their own against Scottish rugby giants Ayr in a 15-12 loss.

Despite the loss, Craigs still progress from their pool to the semi finals of the West Cup.

Coach Johnny Leitch was delighted with the attitude of his young team.

He told ExtraSport: “ Ayr were delighted to hear the final whistle.

“It was an awesome performance by us to run Ayr this close, and to have played more of the rugby on the day.

“In all the years I’ve coached and been at this club I’ve never been happier with a performance than today. The respect owed to this age group is frightening.”

Craigs face Dumfries , who won the national bowl, in their semi final, while Ayr play West of Scotland.
