City to face Europe’s finest

Glasgow City’s group has been announced for the Meet the Champions Tournament in Germany

Turbine Potsdam will host the tournament in Germany on February 2-3.

Scottish Champions Glasgow City have been drawn in Group A and will face Brøndby IF of Denmark, Djurgårdens IF of Sweden and VV St. Truiden of Belgium.

The indoor tournament is 8 a-side, and is the first of its kind ever hosted by Potsdam.

It is an invitational only event for some of the top nations in Champions League women’s football.

City will play each group opponent twice, before two further placement matches, which will decide the ultimate outcome of the tournament. The group matches will be 12 minutes in duration and the placement matches, 15 minutes.

Glasgow City head coach Eddie Wolecki Black said, “The format is very interesting and should ensure a rigorous pre-season workout for the players. The games are certain to be of a high intensity and will require the players to be in good condition.

“Like every other tournament we enter we want to do as well as we can, whilst getting ready for the onset of a new season”.

In the other group, hosts Turbine Potsdam will face AC Sparta Praha, AZS Wroclaw and NöSV Neulengbach.

The tournament is to be played over two days in front of a capacity crowd of 2,000 in the new MBS Indoor Arena in Potsdam.
