THE FIRST round of league matches is over and Cartha Queen’s Park ladies stand on top of premier two undefeated.

Now, the rugby stars are training hard in preparation for their battle for a return to the top, as they battle against the two bottom teams from premier one and Stirling County who are also bidding for promotion.

It has been all change at Dumbreck with plenty of new girls joining and a new coach in ex-Scotland international Joan Hutchieson.

Flanker Mary Lafaiki was selected for the Scotland six nations squad and played yesterday against Italy after returning from a calf injury while several of the team have also been representing West of Scotland at regionals.

Captain Morven Pollock said, “Everyone has trained hard to make this season a success. It’s been great to have new faces down and see what they can do on the pitch.

“We look forward to putting into practice what we’ve been doing at training to fight for a place in premier one.
