Dundee Wanderers caught Milne Craig Western unawares in the women`s Subway national league last Sunday with a famous 6-4 victory.
It was a result that fired the Taysiders to the top of the table for the first time in their history, but left the Titwood-based favourites short of Christmas spirit.
Western`s Helen Walker quickly equalised after Wanderers went ahead, and in thi
s thrilling ding-dong affair more goals were exchanged before the interval. Kareena Marshall provided two from penalty corners for Western, while Amy Rowan and Bunce found the net for Wanderers.
A quick-fire Kelburne double effectively sealed the result early in the second half, although Holly Cram pulled one back for the Glasgow outfit, and the Buddies had the final say with a strike close to the final hooter.
Earlier in the day, Western did put one over on their rivals Grove when Kareena Marshall scored the winner with the final strike of the game to give her side a narrow 3-2 victory.
The Taysiders had gone ahead, but the equaliser came from a Marshall set-piece conversion. Western put their noses in front when Ellie Cockburn scored off a pass from Laura Bartlett, only to be pegged back by another Grove goal. Marshall`s last-gasp winner came from a penalty corner strike half stopped by the Grove keeper, but ball bobbled over the goal line.
Meanwhile Kelburne secured a 3-2 win over Clydesdale, the Western second strings, who currently languish at the foot of the table with no points.
