BATTLEFIELD primary pupils finally gave up their Scottish championship in this year's Bank of Scotland primary sportshall challenge.

But they didn't go down without a fight and were pipped by just three points in the final by Moray's West End primary school.

The event, at the Bells Sports Centre in Perth, was the climax to a number of regional qualifying rounds which saw more than 1,600 children take part across the country.

The southsiders were the team to beat having been champions for two years running but were handed runners' up medals by Scottish International Gordon Thomson as well as some valuable advice during a lively question and answer session session.

BADMINTONscotland's Development Manager Russell Hogg was delighted with this year's competition: "The final was a fitting end to a great competition with some excellent badminton skills on show."
