UNDER looming skies, heavy rain and gale force winds, the hills and mud of the Scottish national cross-country relays presented a challenge even more testing than usual, but Giffnock North's athletes seized the day in fine style.
The southsiders' junior men's team raced to gold over its 3 X 2.5k course, with Dougie Britton launching the bid with a fifth place under-13 lap.

Grant Muir then took Giffnock into the lead with a storming u-15 leg to set up u-17 Miles Hollinshead for the anchor lap and a cool-headed nine minutes, 35 seconds effort to hold off Kilbarchan Harriers' fast-finishing Calum Hawkins.

Selena Jackson, Madeline Murray and Catriona Lockie also claimed a hard-fought bronze in the junior ladies' event, also over 3x 2.5k.

Lockie was only edged out in the final 100 metres by Central AC's Rosie Hastings, in a race well won by Dundee Hawkhill.
