YOUNG people are best served in East Renfrewshire, according to the National Youth Worker of the Year awards.

The East Renfrewshire Young Person’s Team took away the title of Team of the Year 2012, beating off competition from the Motherwell youth work team and Glasgow’s community and safety services.

The group were nominated by Heather Layton, team leader of ERC’s young persons services, who commented: “I’m delighted and extremely proud of each and every one of the team, as they provide such a good service to young people.

“They are so deserving of this award with their positive attitude, enthusiasm, energy and motivation”.

ERC chief executive, Lorraine McMillan, added: “This is a tremendous achievement.

“I would like to congratulate the team for their hard work in helping so many of our young people across East Renfrewshire to overcome difficulties and make real and lasting changes to their lives”.

The team were awarded for innovative practice, for introducing programmes such as a youth health service, firereach and parental and young mums groups.
