Window to the Past: come fly with me...

Who would have thought Newton Mearns had its own piece of aviation history?

This black and white photograph is of Wallace Fairweather and others inspecting his Avro Aerian aeroplane at the aircraft hanger in King Henry’s Knowe, Newton Mearns.

A feature of the Avro Aerian aeroplane pictured was its folding wings, which was unusual in early planes (and relatively rare in later models which weren’t designed for maritime use).

This picture — one of a couple which can be viewed via Portal to the Past — is only identified as taken in the 1920s.
