Window to the Past: Afton Terrace 1910s

editorial image

The fine old tenement of four closes in what became Pollokshaws Road is still known as Afton Terrace.

Beyond is the bowling-green with its tall white flag pole standing out against Pollok Academy.

The Standard round-dash tram number 406 is bound for Springburn.

Note the pony with the light cart parked partly on the pavement at the lamp post clear of the tram line while the driver makes a delivery.

Afton Terrace survived the demolition during a mid 1960s road widening scheme while the buildings on the opposide side of the road did not.
