A WILLIAMWOOD funeral directors handed over a cheque for over £1,300 recently in a bid to beat ovarian cancer.

Anderson Maguire funeral directors managed to raise over £600 for Target Ovarian Cancer by hosting a coffee and cake morning attended by members of the Williamwood community.

The total was then doubled by Dom Maguire, chairman of the firm, bringing the total to £1,312.

Funeral arranger Marjory Campbell said: “One of my colleagues recently had a cancer scare, and I know of many people who have lost loved ones to cancer in recent years.

“We were delighted with the support we received from family, friends and strangers who wanted to come along and donate to the event. It was really awful weather that day, so we didn’t expect so many people to turn up but they did.

“We would also like to extend our thanks to all the local businesses who donated and gave prizes for the raffle.”

Flora Colmar, of Target Ovarian Cancer, added: “We are delighted to have received the cheque, and thank everyone involved for their time and effort.

“Every penny we receive helps us achieve our goal of a long and good life for women with ovarian cancer, something that is so crucial when our survival rates are so low.”
