A MUM and daughter from Newton Mearns are honoured to add their names to the third Breakthrough Breast Cancer supporters wall.

Karen Gourlay and daughter Hollybeth (16) were invited to the Royal Society of Edinburgh recently for the unveiling of the charity’s third benefactor wall.

Karen told The Extra: “Over the past few years, we’ve raised £3,554 for Breakthrough with the help of friends, family, workmates, schoolmates, Mearns parish kirk, Mearns primary school and lots of other individuals in our community who have walked, rattled cans, held dress as you please days, performed carol singing door to door and more to help this wonderful cause”.

The event included a speech from professor Mike Dixon, clinical lead at the charity’s Edinburgh research unit, who discussed key findings that the money received has funded to date, as well as a future three year study as part of Breakthrough’s ongoing research.
