ISOLATED older people are set to benefit from a £500,000 Big Lottery award presented to a new Voluntary Action project.
The Seniors Together Projects will be launched by Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire (VAER) on May 29, and will include group events and activities, one to one and group befriending.
The underlying theme is to support older people to maintain independence without becoming isolated - and VAER are on the lookout for volunteers for the scheme.
Gill MacGregor, Seniors Together Project development worker, told The Extra: “You can make a difference by volunteering for this exciting new initiative and support our older residents.
“Previous experience is not needed, you just need to be a good listener, and have a couple of hours to spare each week - it’s more about who you are than what you’ve done.
“We’re looking for a range of people who can visit residents in their own homes once a week for a chat - or people who can drive older residents to events and activities once or twice a month.
“Full training and support will be provided and all out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.”
