BUSBY library’s June Lamont has become the first East Renfrewshire staff member to receive an SQA Bookbug session leaders award.
The ERC colleague was awarded the accolade by the Scottish Book Trust, after completing a portfolio of work and being marked on her Bookbug sessions – a free event run across the area which encourages parents to bring babies and small children along for storytelling.
June received her award from councillor Mary Montague, ERC’s community services convener, who commented: “It was a pleasure to present June with her award as I have had a close relationship with Busby library over the years.
“June has organised fundraising events for the armed forces through shoebox collection.
“She was also instrumental in an important community project earlier this year, involving the staff of Busby community library and the Friends of Duff memorial halls who raised funds to have a beautiful cast bronze plaque made and erected outside the library in memory of the villages’ war dead”.
More info on the parent and child sessions is available from East Renfrewshire council.
