NEWTON Mearns teenager Hollybeth Gourlay is reeling this week after performing at the Scottish Variety Awards.

The 16-year-old Hutcheson’s grammar school pupil was the youngest of 12 UK Theatre School hopefuls plucked from auditions to perform a Proclaimers medley at the event, held in the Crowne Plaza on Saturday.

Hollybeth told The Extra: “I’ve always loved acting, singing and dancing — especially since my mum was a dancer.

“I get such a buzz from being on stage, and would love to pursue a career as a performer”.

The southsider was particularly delighted to meet Scottish singer Emeli Sandé, who commented that the Theatre School performance was “absolutely fabulous — I’m blown away by their talent”.
