A hairdressing duo from Glasgow have scooped a prestigious award at this year’s British Hairdressing Awards.
Suzie McGill and Dylan Brittain, of the city’s Rainbow Room International, were announced as Scottish Hairdresser of the Year 2016.
Hosted by David Walliams and executive director of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr, Suzie McGill and Dylan Brittain were invited on stage in front of previous winners, household names and industry icons to collect their award.
The iconic photographic competition requires hairdressing professionals and artistic teams from across the country to create a collection of eight images that showcase their creativity and technical ability.
Suzie McGill and Dylan Brittain were overjoyed to scoop the award.
They said: “We are so grateful to receive this award, we were up against some of the toughest creative hairdressers in Scotland and to win is a real honour.”
Entrants are able to choose from regional and specialist categories including Afro, Artistic Team, Avant Garde, Men’s, Newcomer and Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year.
David Walliams set the tone of the evening, held at the Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel. Once the nine regional winners were announced, the audience were treated to a capsule set from chart-topping singer Louisa Johnson. The specialist categories were then revealed and celebrated, prior to individual catwalk shows presented by each of the eight British Hairdresser of the Year Nominees.
The ceremony came to a close after Angelo Seminara was announced as the 2016 British Hairdresser of the Year but the party continued into the small hours as the industry celebrated its winners.
Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of Hairdressers Journal International, said: “Suzie McGill and Dylan Brittain should be very proud of their success.
“British hairdressing is regarded as the best in the world and to win Scottish Hairdresser of the Year is a huge achievement. Each year the judges find choosing a winner harder, proving that creativity and passion are stronger than ever.”
HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, has been raising the profile of talented teams and individuals for over three decades and now the best in the industry for 2016 have been named.
