Silverburn shoppers go for charity gold

SHOPPERS visiting Silverburn have been doing their bit for charity – by getting on their bikes.

The southside shopping centre has been hosting an Everyone’s a Winner roadshow challenge, encouraging over 1,500 shoppers so far to cycle for the Pollok Community Sports Hub.

For every mile clocked up, Silverburn are donating 60p to the umbrella charity, which helps southside sports teams improve their facilities and recruit young members.

Fundraising has passed the halfway point with 300 miles on the clock – and the centre hopes that it’s on track to smash a £3,000 target.

General manager David Pierotti commented: “For just 60 seconds of your time you can put money towards a potential future Olympian.

“So far, the results have been extremely positive, especially on Sunday afternoon – the sporting achievements of the Games on Saturday evening caused a surge in the number of visits to the station, which is tremendous.

“We’re now hoping that even more members of the community will come down and support the scheme”.

Kevin West, sports development officer for Glasgow Life and involved in the Community Sports Hub, added: “The money raised will help provide the necessary equipment, promotional materials, training and access to facilities that will enable the local and wider community greater access to all sports involved”.

Anyone can take part in the challenge, running until Sunday (August 12), by visiting the stall outside Debenhams. For more information, visit Silverburn Events.
