SILVERBURN shoppers can claim their own slice of Olympic gold this week, having raised £2,000 for a southside sporting charity.

As reported recently, the Pollok shopping centre has been hosting an Everyone’s a Winner roadshow in aid of the Pollok Community Sports Hub.

For every minute cycled by a kind-hearted shopper, the centre donated 60p to the initiative which provides funding for numerous sports clubs in the area.

The final amount raised was £2,471 and will be used to fund new equipment for groups such as

Cartha Queen’s Park rugby, Giffnock North AAC, Glasgow Riderz and more.

Kevin West, sport development officer at Glasgow Life and key fundraiser, commented: “The efforts of everyone involved with the challenge, the volunteers from the local clubs, members of the community and Silverburn staff has been tremendous – on behalf of the Community Sports Hub, a big thank you to all.

“The roadshow has been a great success and the money raised will do a great deal for the teams – the Olympic fever over the past weeks has certainly added to the excitement of the event”.

David Pierotti, Silverburn general manager, added: “We are very proud to support such a great initiative.

“We are sure the funds raised will towards helping many young aspiring athletes from the local area – fantastic work by everyone involved”.
