Shawlands primary was paid a visit by the entire South Africa rugby sevens squad yesterday.

The internationals took time out of their busy schedule prior to their world series encounter at Scotstoun this weekend to meet keen youngsters at the local school.

As well as quizzing the players, pupils also had a chance to play a game of touch and learn some top tips from the experts.

Glasgow’s rugby development officer Ross Aitken who helped set up the meeting said: “I hope this will spark interest and get some of these kids to play with local clubs like Cartha Queen’s Park.

“The children can be inspired when meeting top quality guys like these. It’s still a football obsessed city but more and more people will get interested in rugby”.

Tariq Saka (12, pictured) told The Extra: “I’m definitely going to start playing.
