Respite session for community carers

CARERS are invited along to a support event taking place in East Renfrewshire this October.

The Time Out for Carers event takes place at Eastwood House on October 9, and is aimed at residents over 50 who provide unpaid help and support to a friend or family member.

The morning includes light exercise sessions, therapies, healthy food demonstrations, a buffet lunch and advice on educational opportunities, health and benefits.

Organised by the East Renfrewshire CHCP and East Ren Carers Centre, it is hoped that the day out will spawn future sessions in whatever activities prove the most popular.

Councillor Alan Lafferty, ERC convener for social work and health, explained: “Caring for another person can leave you feeling isolated, and it’s important to take time out from your caring role and make time for yourself.

“This event, for residents across East Renfrewshire, recognises that needs of carers can often go unmet – so we will be looking for suggestions on how we can organise long-term activities that can better meet carers’ needs”.

Time Out for Carers takes place between 10am and 1.45pm on the Tuesday. To book a place, call 638 4888.
