A ‘miscommunication’ by council bosses to refuse collection staff saw residents in Busby left with no bins last week.

Reader David Hunter, of Woodyett Park, contacted The Extra on Friday to complain that refuse collectors had taken his old blue recycle box and thrown it into the back of the bin lorry.

He said: “When I asked them to retrieve it as I didn’t have any other way to recycle, they told me they had been instructed to remove all the blue boxes from the roadside and dispose of them.”

David is just one of a few residents who have refused to take the new recycle bins as he has no space to keep them.

The council, on their website, specify that if this is the case, residents can continue to use the old system.

An East Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “During the successful roll-out of our new bin collection service, a small number of homes mistakenly had their blue boxes removed by our staff.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused, and will be providing residents who have been affected with replacement boxes in the coming week.”
