Exciting times are ahead for East Renfrewshire Carers’ Centre, thanks to generous donations from the community.
Centre manager Mark Mulhern met with Eastwood Probus Club this week and was presented with a cheque for £750 to help fund a new dementia cafe project for service users.
Club president Blair Miller told The Extra: “We have regular talks, and the first person to come and speak to us was Mark.
“We had a surplus money left over this year and decided his centre was ideally suited as a recipient.”
The donation will be used alongside an £800 boost courtesy of Friends of East Renfrewshire Carers’ Centre, from a bridge drive at Clarkston Bowling Club.
Mark explained: “We do lots of things for carers themselves, but carers of people with dementia can’t and won’t always come if they can’t bring that person with them.
“We’re working with our friends at Eastwood Dementia Centre to pilot a cafe project — a monthly coffee, sandwich and chat where carers and the person they care for can come along too, with our care workers there to look after them.”
The Carers’ Centre hopes to organise the first event before christmas.
Eastwood Probus Club remains open to new members — the next meeting takes place on October 15, 2.15pm at Eastwood House.
