Police in East Renfrewshire are treating racist graffiti written in snow on a Clarkston resident’s car as a hate crime.

The Stewart Drive householder contacted officers on Saturday morning after discovering offensive language and pictures scribbled on the vehicle following recent snowfall.

Inspector Alan Dickson, of Giffnock police station, told The Extra: “It was an upsetting incident for the resident, and we are treating it as a racially motivated hate crime.

“I would ask that anyone who saw or heard anything overnight between January 15 and 16 (Friday and Saturday) contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to get in touch with police on non-emergency number 101.
