The temporary closure of the Post Office at The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns is to go ahead as planned.

Following the resignation of the operator and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use, the branch will be closing temporarily tomorrow (Saturday, September 14) at 12.30pm.

A Post Office spokespman said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Newton Mearns Post Office following the resignation of the postmaster and withdrawal of premises for Post Office use.

“The branch is run by an independent retailer who will also close their shop at the same time. While we always work hard to maintain Post Office services, we are not the owner of the premises.

“We understand how important a Post Office can be to a community and would like to reassure customers that we will be working hard to restore services to them as soon as possible.”

The Post Office is still advertising for a replacement on its website with a closing date of November 28, 2019

The spokesman added: “Any retailer or small business owner interested in running the Post Office and incorporating it into their business should ring 0333 345 5560 - option 2 and talk to an advisor or email [email protected] or visit www.runapostoffice.co.uk”
